Please join us on the 138th Annual Toronto Labour Day Parade

Once again, the Workers' Solidarity and Union Democracy Coalition is invited to participate in Toronto's Annual Labour Day Parade as part of the contingent organized by the Toronto Local of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

Socialist Action, along with the Toronto Substitute Teachers' Action Caucus, plus several other labour and community groups, helped to found the Workers' Solidarity Coalition in the Fall of 2004.

It is very important to show that rank and file activists are present on Labour Day.  It is important to demonstrate that we continue to fight for a pro-worker alternative to the employers' agenda.  It is important to emphasize that workers did not create the global economic crisis and that we refuse to pay for it.

It is crucial that we continue to work for more democratic, membership-driven unions.  We need unions that reject the Ontario government's plan for a two-year wage freeze and more social cutbacks.  We need unions that are prepared to take mass job action to oppose the employers' agenda, from City Hall to the global G20 level.

As we prepare for the big day, we would like to know whether you plan to join us.

The Workers' Solidarity banner will be our meeting spot.  On Monday, September 6 at 9:30 a.m. on the east side of University Avenue, at Armoury Street, just one block north of Queen Street, one block south of Dundas Street, look for the Workers' Solidarity banner, next to the CUPW truck and banner.

We will walk together along Queen Street, west to Dufferin Street, and south into the Canadian National Exhibition.  Wear comfortable shoes, sun screen, a hat, and bring a bottle of water, and an umbrella just in case.

Free arm bands, refreshments and admission to the CNE are additional incentives for you and yours to help demonstrate the strength and solidarity of working people on the traditional parade route.
